International Series Statement

In Remnants of Presence, the painted surface becomes a space in which traces accumulate - not to reconstruct a complete narrative, but to preserve what remains of one.

Expansive fields of color coexist with fragments of fabric, floral patterns, ink stains, spontaneous lines, printed marks, and textured surfaces. Some elements remain visible, while others are partially concealed or absorbed into layers of paint. Through this continuous movement between revealing and obscuring, the works develop a visual language rooted in fragmentation and incompleteness.

The fragments are not treated as decorative additions, but as evidence of a previous presence. A piece of patterned fabric, an ink stain, or a line that refuses to close its form suggests something that has passed through the work without fully revealing itself.

Throughout the series, acts of construction and erasure, preservation and release, density and emptiness exist simultaneously. The layers never completely erase what lies beneath them, just as what remains visible never offers a final image.

Remnants of Presence asks a fundamental question: What remains when things lose their original form?

Perhaps what survives is not the event, the place, or even the memory itself, but a color, a texture, a fragment, an unfinished line, or a trace whose origin can no longer be named.

In these works, absence becomes another form of presence. What disappears from the image does not necessarily leave it; it continues to exist within its layers.
